Owens & Minor Credit Specialist in Mechanicsville, Virginia
Responsible for performing credit-related tasks for Owens & Minor customers which includes maintaining accurate customer correspondence files and corresponding with customers about their account.Analyzes credit data to estimate the degree of risk involved in extending credit to customers.Performs credit research and prepares reports of findings to Credit Managers.Performs miscellaneous reporting and other duties as directed by the Home Office Credit Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.Performs credit evaluations of accounts within established credit limit guidelines using credit websites, financial documents and appropriate credit application(s) to establish credit lines in accordance with the Owens & Minor credit policy.
2.Responsible for the periodic review of customer credit limits within established credit guidelines.
3.Communicates with customers on credit related issues (credit applications, credit limits, held orders, etc.).Follows-up with phone calls/emails, if necessary, until issues are resolved.Documents all communications.
4.Negotiates credit terms and workout scenarios with customer-escalating up the chain-of-command as needed which could include:Controllers, the CFO and Department Directors.
5.Reviews and evaluates credit applications, reference data and recommendations in order to determine credit validity.Prepares recommendations for approval of customer credit limits or credit holds.
6.Reviews credit holds escalated by Shared Services teams.Contacts customers for credit related information and makes recommendation to the appropriate manager regarding order release based on customer response.
7.Generates and reviews accounts receivable reports and takes appropriate actions (including but not limited to daily over alert or credit limit reports.
8.Utilizes multiple internal systems (such as:ORACLE, OMAR, EDGE, iReceivables, OMDirect, OMLive, CMF, Business Objects, OnDemand and Hyperion) and external systems (such as:Credit Bureau, various bank websites and internet search engines) to prepare reports, research issues and monitor accounts.
9.May prepare recommendations on actions to be taken regarding accounts with collection agencies, legal counsel, bankruptcies, or the repossession of merchandise.
10.Maintains electronic credit file including credit applications and key correspondence.Performs other clerical duties as required including filing, data entry, typing, etc.
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.Confers with customers to explain types of payment options available; Attends conference calls and customer visits as necessary.
2.Reviews credit application for completeness. Verifies references provided by customer.Responds to credit reference requests.
3.Performs additional duties as directed.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1.High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
2.Associate degree or additional specialized training, preferred.
3.Minimum, three (3) to five (5) years of work experience in accounts receivable and/or credit/collections, call center or a related discipline/work environment, required.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1.Strong knowledge of general accounting, collections and credit processes.
2.Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools including:Excel, Word and Outlook.
3.Demonstrated ability to conduct credit research.
4.Ability to effectively speak to supervisors, teammates or customers or others and convey information by phone, in written form, by email or in person.
5.Ability to accurately document information in files, reports or other forms of communication.
6.Strong organizational skills.
