POSITION SUMMARY

 

Provides overall leadership, direction and support to the Domestic Solutions Transportation team. Leads a team of domestic transportation professionals to support the effective and efficient execution of all daily transportation operations, with additional responsibility to achieve continuously improving results in safety, quality, service, and cost performance; optimizes the flow of products, information and communication between facilities/vendors, merchants, service providers and distribution centers; defines and establishes solutions for long-term objectives for each area of the Transportation department and ensures system developments to meet business growth and customer expectations for the future.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.       Responsible for operational execution of Transportation network, focused on attainment of customer metrics and expected financial performance.  Establish annual objectives that ensure financial performance, safety, quality, and customer service in compliance with all applicable internal and external policies.

2.       Lead and enhance relationships with national and regional Transportation vendors/partners.

3.       Responsible for managing fleet, freight out (FTL, LTL and parcel) and expedite expenses in line with overall company goals.

4.       Drive and actively manage initiatives, programs, and processes that support a culture of continuous improvement.  Determine software and tool requirements by partnering with internal business units, clients and customers; understand and support the overall long-term vision for the organization.

5.       Partner with cross-functional leaders to develop and realize improved inbound freight results, including carrier performance and overall cost

6.       Partner with Procurement organization to realize transportation savings per overall company goals.

7.       Lead service provider RFPs resulting in provider selection, analysis, and associated implementation.

8.       Determine software and tool requirements by working with internal business units, clients and customers; understand and support the overall long-term vision for the organization.

9.       Oversee audit of freight and service provider invoices to identify and realize savings opportunities.

10.   Lead performance improvement programs affecting the Transportation strategy and business goals.  Drive and actively manage initiatives, programs, and processes that support a culture of continuous improvement.

11.   Partner with Legal, US Customs and FDA on all regulatory requirements to ensure the highest level of performance on Customers and FDA compliance programs; ensure maintenance of required transportation certifications.

12.   Consults on regulatory compliance issues and adapts organizational procedures or processes to meet new or changed regulations. 

SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors degree in required (Logistics or Supply Chain Management concentration preferred).
  • MBA / related Masters degree, preferred.
  • Minimum, seven (7) years of experience in transportation and supply chain management, required.
  • Minimum, three (3) years of experience supervising staff on multiple projects, required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Experience working and/or implementing a warehouse management system and/or transportation management system
  • Excellent in-depth understanding of transportation and logistics including an expert level of knowledge about transportation and customs compliance
  • Ability to demonstrate a detailed understanding of global cultural nuances, legal, regulatory and business issues
  • Proven ability to analyze data and draw conclusions and make recommendations to senior leadership based on that analysis
  • Proven leadership, problem-solving and decision making ability coupled with strong management skills
  • Very strong financial analysis and management skills
  • Very strong planning and organizational skills
  • Strong team building and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop action plans and deliver to completion both through individual action and through directing the work of others
