Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Accurately bills customer accounts, assures timely remittance, and takes immediate action on issues that involve account integrity. Follow-ups with payers to facilitate uninterrupted cash flow.  Isan expert in all areas of their role, and effectively assists other staff with complex and difficult issues



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

1.      Answers questions from customers, clerical staff, and insurance companies.

2.      Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.

3.      Handles customer collection calls.

4.      Documents activities in ERP system in an efficient, accurate and timely manner.

5.      Effectively evaluates EOB's and makes appropriate adjustments.

6.      Effectively resolves aging claims timely.

7.       Reduces delinquency in assigned account.

8.      Determines most effective and economical means of collecting account.

9.      Assists other staff with difficult and complex issues.

10.  Conducts inquires via phone, mail, fax or through payor portals.

11.  Consistently meets organizational goals.

12.  Insures compliance with all state and federal billing regulations.

13.  Ensures the billing activity is handled correctly.

14.  Edit and resubmits claims for payment.

15.  Prepares and reviews clean claims for submission to various insurances either electronically or by paper.

16.  Provides solutions to account issues utilizing experience and judgment.

17.  Conducts complex work important to the organization.

18.  Contributes to team objectives and outcomes as guided.

 

SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  

  • Performs additional duties as directed.


Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five or more years billing and collecting experience

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

 

  • Highly-skilled and proficient
  • Works on complex projects
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to practice proper phone and email etiquette
  • Skilled in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner
  • Ability to read, understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Knowledge of medical billing and collection practices
  • Expert in medical terminology and insurances HCPC/ICD-9 codes
  • Ability to train on policies and procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Little or no traveling required (less than 10%)
  • May work extended hours on occasion
