POSITION SUMMARY

 

Leads Owens & Minor's global IT infrastructure services.  Oversees delivery of all third-party and internally managed IT infrastructure used to support business processes across the enterprise.  Develops and executes operational and service management processes to ensure quality, efficiency, and agility goals relating to IT infrastructure are achieved.  As a member of the IT leadership team, contributes to the development and execution of Owens & Minor's IT strategy, and ensures its alignment with overall business strategy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

1.       Sets the mission and vision of Owens & Minor's Infrastructure Services organization, fostering a business-oriented culture and mindset driven by continual service improvement techniques.

2.       Leads the development of the Infrastructure Services strategy and roadmap, ensuring its integration with the overall IT and enterprise strategic plans.

3.       Works with the IT senior leadership team on the service portfolio and governance required to prioritize resources.

4.       Acts as a trusted advisor, and builds and maintains relationships with IT leaders and business executives to understand global business needs, ensures cost-effective delivery of IT services to meet those needs, and to respond with agility to changing business priorities.

5.       Develops and controls the Infrastructure Services annual operating and capital expenditure budget, ensuring consistency with overall IT and Owens & Minor strategic objectives.

6.       Leverages influence and negotiation skills across IT and the enterprise to enable cost-effective and innovative shared solutions to achieve business goals.

7.       Assesses internal and external technology capabilities required to achieve desired competitive positioning.

8.       Stays abreast on new technologies and platforms, providing direction and proposals on what emerging technologies should be assimilated, integrated, and introduced within Infrastructure Services to ensure IT capabilities respond to the needs of the enterprise's business strategy.

9.       Champions Infrastructure Services' involvement in the IT organization's innovation efforts and its role in experimenting with new solutions to take advantage of business opportunities.

10.   Provides strategic direction and oversight for the design, development, operation, and support of IT systems that fulfill business needs, including the full life cycle of technical architecture, infrastructure engineering, infrastructure operations, and IT service support.

11.   Leads the development of Infrastructure Services sourcing strategy, and provides oversight for strategic vendor and partner relationship management.

12.   Works with HR and the IT leadership teams to develop an Infrastructure Services human capital strategy that aligns with the business and IT strategy.  Continually looks for leading-edge and innovative solutions to the recruitment, development and retention of the Infrastructure Services workforce.

13.   Forecasts future skills needs to acquire and develop an IT workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills, and competencies that balance growing the agility required to achieve digital business objectives and ensuring the core IT functions are reliable, stable and efficient.

14.   Serves on IT planning and policymaking committees; drives the development of enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure Infrastructure Services delivers value to the enterprise.

15.   Provides leadership, coaching and direction to the INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES leadership team and staff.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:  

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or related field of study; Masters Degree preferred
  • Minimum of fifteen years in progressing IT roles; minimum of five years direct supervisory experience
  • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the above requirements
  • Experience in large, cross-functional teams influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders effectively across the organization and within complex contexts (strategic planning, organization design and development, etc.)
  • Experience or demonstrated capability in leading IT transformational initiatives in complex and dynamic environments highly preferred

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision that inspires and motivates staff and aligns to the IT and business strategy
  • Ability to instill confidence in the business and demonstrate the business value of IT
  • Effective influence and negotiation skills in an environment where resources may not be in direct control of this role
  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills
  • Strong business acumen, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and its business units
  • Expertise in budget planning and financial management preferably with show back and/or chargeback models
  • Deep understanding of current and emerging Infrastructure Services technologies and how other enterprises are employing them
  • Success in leveraging both traditional best practices, such as IT service management practices based on ITIL, as well as emerging methods like DevOps that are optimized for agility
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a strategic people plan that ensures that the right people are in the right roles at the right time and that employees are highly engaged and satisfied
  • Strong vendor management and partner relation skills to identify and leverage resources internal and external to the enterprise to enhance capabilities that support business objectives
  • Ability to drive organizational change and build infrastructure capabilities that effectively balance the need to continuously exploit capabilities to optimize operational efficiency with the need to deliver innovative and agile infrastructure and operational solutions to enable the business to explore new opportunities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts to the INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES workforce


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Ability to travel up to 20%; includes international travel
