Job Description



Responsible for the design, development, implementation and success measurement of a company-wide sourcing strategy for indirect (expense) supplies and services.  Responsible for the management/influence of over $100+ MM.  Conducts benchmarking activities with external and internal parties to identify and implement best practices for use at Owens & Minor.  Responsible for the successful implementation and growth of the Corporate Purchasing and Travel Card programs.  Negotiates, implements, communicates and supports supplier programs and agreements, maximizes corporate and field sourcing opportunities to leverage vendor relationships to ensure best value and identifies opportunities to automate and streamline processes.  Manages team dedicated to implementing and auditing procurement strategies.


1.      Designs, develops and implements a strategic sourcing strategy and related models for indirect supplies and services.

2.      Measures and reports the effectiveness of sourcing strategy to Senior Management.

3.      Engages in change management activities necessary to gain acceptance and buy-in of concepts.  Educates and gains buy-in from others on value of sourcing models.

4.      Reviews current and future national supplier contracts/relationships.  Implements ways to decrease cost and increase process efficiencies.

5.      Benchmarks with internal and external sources to identify and translates the best practices of others for use by Owens & Minor (O&M).

6.      Develops, implements and audits sourcing processes, including the development and review of Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

7.      Acts as primary negotiator with external vendors, leverages national vendors to maximize return on investment. Responsible for key IT relationships including Oracle and JDA software systems.

8.      Develops, reviews and negotiates commercial contracts for products and services. Partners with the Legal Department to resolve contract and vendor issues.

9.      Responsible for the expansion and growth of alternate payment strategies (Corporate Purchasing Card programs, Corporate Travel Card, etc.) and all travel related initiatives.

10.  Supports global supply chain strategies including extension of O&M contracts and relationships to Europe.

11.  Supports procurement activities related to acquisitions and divestitures to ensure the optimization of processes and cost reduction opportunities.

12.  Coaches, counsels and develops both direct reports and project team members.

13.  Leads and/or participates on cross-functional teams including Finance, IT, Operations and HR.  Acts as process expert for team.


  1. Manages and/or develops departmental budget for VP approval.
  2. Performs additional duties as directed.



  1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Information Systems or related disciplinary area, required.
  2. Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Information Systems or related disciplinary area, preferred.
  3. Minimum, ten (10) years of experience in a technical or business process or leadership role of similar scope, required.
  4. Minimum, five (5) years of direct supervisory experience, required.
