Job Description



Responsible for Owens & Minor's contract and commercial transportation spending.   Collaborates with the Owens & Minor Transportation Director, and serves a strategic partner to the Transportation Leadership team.  Defines and implements sourcing strategies for purchased transportation across the entire Owens & Minor network, and manages freight payment audit contract, processes and suppliers.



  1. Creates a robust supplier management system that focuses on building deep supplier relationships and driving cost reductions across the transportation network (parcel, LTL, FTL, local deliveries, etc.)
  2. Serves as primary escalation point to resolve service/contracts issues with Owens & Minor's carriers and transportation suppliers.
  3. Partners with Field Operations teams to review supplier strategic positions, and develops/executes a sourcing strategy to streamline the supplier base.
  4. Negotiates complex contracts for the outsourcing of transportation services.
  5.  Implements a rigorous supplier management process to ensure suppliers meet cost, delivery, and quality KPIs/expectations.
  6. Engages with supplier leadership teams to establish strong supplier relationships between Owens & Minor and our suppliers.
  7. Leads quarterly business review process with suppliers.
  8. Establishes and leads process to review pricing and ensures that projected cost savings are realized.
  9. Partners with the Transportation team and functional business operations teams to identify high-risk suppliers, align stakeholders on recommendations, and to create and close risk mitigation plans.


1.       Performs additional duties as directed.



  • Bachelors Degree required (concentration in Logistics of Supply Chain Management preferred): MBA preferred
  • Seven (7) plus years of transportation and supply chain experience;  minimum of seven (7) years supplier management experience (including domestic surface transportation and international ocean freight)
  • In depth knowledge of freight payment industry
  • Or any combination of education and experience to meet the above requirements

    • Transportation services procurement expertise, especially Less Than Truckload (LTL), Truckload (TL), Intermodal and International Ocean Freight
    • Direct transportation procurement experience, specifically in domestic surface transportation modes (LTL, TL, Intermodal, Parcel) and international ocean freight
    • Excellent negotiation skills
    • Strong analytical skills (MS Excel and MS Access expertise required)
    • Strong knowledge of category management processes and systems
    • Excellent communication/presentation skills (MS PowerPoint expertise)
    • Strong problem solving skills
    • Ability to drive innovation; demonstrate self-initiative and personal drive
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Ability to thrive in a team environment
    • Demonstrated success working in a matrix environment and driving enterprise projects to completion while improving operational results
