Job Description



Working from work requests (stored in CMMS - Computerized Maintenance Management System); work procedures; or other written, verbal or electronic instructions; performs a wide variety of self-directed mechanical and electrical duties to maintain production equipment and facilities in a safe, clean, and efficiently operational manner. Adheres to procedures and prepares and maintains records, in either written or electronic form, regarding safety, quality, productivity, preventive maintenance, and housekeeping.  


1.       Troubleshoots industrial machinery and equipment:  electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and PLC logic systems. 

2.       Observes and listens to mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble; repairs equipment in a timely manner.

3.       Dismantles machines or equipment, replacing defective parts and motors, and adjusting feed mechanisms.

4.       Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments to ensure machines are operating within validated parameters.

5.       Reads, interprets, understands, and works from drawings, sketches, schematics, machine manuals, CMM work requests, and other written, electronic or verbal instructions.

6.       Uses measuring devices and visual inspections to ensure quality of product and conformity to prints, work instructions, and standards.

7.       Trouble shoots, repairs, and/or installs AC/DC motors, switches, relays and solenoid valves and low voltage control circuits.

8.       Trouble shoots, repairs or replaces various motion controllers/actuators (e.g. IAI, Yasakawa)

9.       Operates various tools and equipment to maintain, clean, prep, lubricate, handle, manipulate, and move machinery, equipment, salvage, and facilities.

10.   Performs tooling changes and setups to support production requirements.

11.   Performs preventative / predictive maintenance, and supports production set-ups.

12.   Bends, cuts, threads, glues pipe, and cuts openings in walls, ceilings, and floors for pipes;  seals pipe joints with sealing compound,

13.   Operates cutting torch and welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.

14.   Prepares and maintains accurate records.

15.   Directs, guides, assists, and/or trains others to promote manufacturing flexibility.

16.   Reports and corrects safety issues relating to equipment.

17.   Assist other personnel as needed.

18.   Observes safety and security procedures.


1.      Performs additional duties as directed.



  • Associate's Degree in technical discipline or 8,000 hour state-approved apprenticeship certificate required
  • Two or more years of general experience as a mechanic or mechanic's helper required
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the above requirements


  • Working knowledge and ability to troubleshoot industrial machinery and equipment:  electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and PLC logic systems
  • Ability to follow electrical code manuals to perform maintenance and repair on industrial machinery and equipment
  • Ability to test and diagnose AC circuits that are 480,220,120 volts
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft Windows based computer operation for HMI control of automated equipment
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to positively deal with problems and resolve issues as they relate to the maintenance of the production facility

  • Strong ability to handle multiple assignments and projects at the same time

  • Monitors own work to ensure quality

  • Works efficiently; completes work in timely manner

  • Strong attention to detail and adaptability

  • Maintains an urgent, proactive demeanor

  • Friendly, professional attitude with excellent communication and listening skills


  • The teammate must have the ability to lift routinely up to 50 pounds
  • On occasion, may be required to lift items weighing 100 pounds
  • While performing the duties of this job, the teammate is frequently required to stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; risk of electrical shock and vibration
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
