Professional Characteristics:  This position requires the adept ability to quickly understand the organizational structure and the unique culture to ensure future growth of the business through comprehensive HR practices (i.e. recruiting, training, teammate advocacy, and leadership development).  The person in this role must be able to partner with the management team to bring an HR perspective that adds value and insight into the key business drivers and have the ability to influence the business outcomes through key HR practices. This person must thrive in a team-oriented environment but must be able to bring a 'tough' perspective to field management or the Home Office as needed. 


Job Summary:   The individual in this role will perform Human Resources related duties at the professional level and provide site leadership to the management team about coaching and developing managers and other teammates.  They will carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas:  employee relations, training, benefits and payroll operations, leave management, and recruiting.  This person reports to the HR Generalist and is typically in Distribution Centers with greater than 150 teammates. 

Essential Job Functions:


Leadership/ Communication

1.       This person will be an integral part of the Leadership Meetings and will participate in the teammate's Team Talks on a regular basis

2.       This role is responsible for ensuring O&M's cultural values are evident in the DC's management practices and to foster a favorable working environment through teammate relations activities and communication.  If inconsistencies are noticed, this person will escalate as appropriate to GM or Home Office HR

3.       Cultivate leadership and ethical values in self and others through modeling and teaching

4.       Maintain a detailed knowledge of employment legislation in all key areas.  Monitor the legislative environment for proposed changes in the law and report new developments to local management and to Home Office Human Resources.  Ensure legal compliance particularly in the management of corrective actions or terminations

5.       Holds management accountable for timely completion of performance reviews.  Screens and reviews documents for consistency of ratings and merit increase amounts - ensures that the wording represents the rating given.  Makes suggestions to management regarding documentation of performance in an effort to effectively communicate issues to teammates

Employee Relations

6.       Communicates and interprets Company policies and procedures to teammates and managers.  Serves as the primary source of information pertaining to Company policy and HR procedures.  Seeks assistance from Home Office HR when responding to non-routine inquiries

7.       Identify situations that have the potential to become teammate issues and advise management and Home Office HR of the situation and make suggestions for problem resolution

8.       Mediates and resolves routine and non-complex ER issues  -- conducts investigations including the creation of appropriate documentation


9.       Train teammates and managers on the use of online development tools including OMU Online.  Recommend classes to managers for the development of their teammates.  Partner with OMU and the HR Generalist to identify and implement development opportunities

10.   Conduct new hire orientation and facilitate or provide appropriate training to the workforce (i.e. Sexual Harassment) as needed


11.   Develop strong partnerships with local Chamber(s) of Commerce, unemployment agencies, local schools, job centers, and other diverse organizations in order to strengthen O&M's overall brand identity as an employer

12.   Assess internal workforce, labor market, and recruitment agencies to determine the availability of qualified applicants

13.   Identify staffing requirements to meet the goals and objectives of the organization; establish hiring criteria based on the competencies needed

14.   Manage the recruiting process for the DC including posting, sourcing, screening, and interviewing applicants.  Utilize behavioral based interviewing techniques.  Ensures compliance with established procedures including pre-employment drug screens, background review, and EEO and Affirmative Action.  Maintains applicant flow information

15.   Assists in the execution of affirmative action plans, monitors and participates in the DC's efforts to achieve affirmative action goals.  Provides guidance to management in the achievement  of affirmative action plans 

Payroll & Benefits Administration

16.   Maintains current knowledge of all benefit/insurance programs and has the ability to answer general questions about the plans and policies - ensures teammates are informed of Company benefits/insurance programs including  at New Hire Orientation, Open Enrollment, and any other wellness initiatives

17.   Coordinates health, life, and disability insurance enrollments

18.   Maintains personnel files in compliance with all applicable legal requirements - maintains or supervises the maintenance of adequate payroll records in accordance with FLSA and state record retention requirements.  This includes maintaining the daily back-up for all KRONOS data and ensuring the timely verification and transmission of KRONOS hours to Home Office Payroll

19.   Manages the coordination of all payroll/benefit related changes.  Ensures teammates are paid accurately and timely in accordance with Company policy and federal/state regulations

Leave Management

20.   Manage all LOA, STD, and WC claims including investigating, resolving, and communicating with DC leadership, teammates, HO Leadership, and the provider as necessary.  Identify trends, causes of potential abuse, and any preventative measures.  Escalate observed trends or concerns to management and Home Office HR.

21.   Manage all unemployment claims including interfacing as appropriate with TALX, attending unemployment claim hearings.  Provide and maintain all applicable documentation

Broad knowledge of a discipline such as Human Resources. 4 year college degree required. Progression towards PHR preferred.

B.            WORK EXPERIENCE:


At least three to five years of experience in Human Resources.

12)   Must have the ability to quickly build rapport and trusting relationships  with people at all levels both at the DC or in the Home Office

13)   Must be comfortable imparting knowledge and challenging individuals in the interests of maintaining standards

14)   A commitment to a high quality cost-effective service and a strong focus on flexible delivery to meet the customer need
