POSITION SUMMARY

 

Tracks, analyzes, reports, and oversees maturation of the IT project portfolio and related processes.  Assists in the development, management, and maturation of Owens & Minor's Portfolio Management capabilities and processes, including budgeting, resource management, delivery management and quality management.  Develops and reports on key metrics related to the success of technology related project delivery, measuring the value provided by those project implementations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Assists with department-wide governance and portfolio management activities, including developing intake processes, training teams on intake process, following-up with process participants, and analyzing and reporting. 
  2. Assists with on-going Project Portfolio processes, including initiating regular update cycles, following-up with project owners, analyzing data, and reporting on portfolio health
  3. Manages with data requests related to other processes such as Portfolio health data, CIO dashboards, Project and Portfolio metrics and other critical processes.  This includes analyzing data, ensuring data quality, developing reports and metrics, etc.
  4. Performs administrative work associated with Work Requests (WRs).  Prepares materials and chairs meetings to facilitate WR governance process (due diligence approval, WR review and approval, work progress, risk areas, and feedback for work prioritization).
  5. Audits Work Requests to track resource, cost, and schedule risks related to delivery.  Forecasts spend on WRs to provide early warning or advance notice of any potential budget issues (specifically focusing on the Service Provider enhancement pool).  Evaluates deliverables on all WRs to identify those more suitable for capital project consideration.
  6. Leads post implementation review meetings (assuring project met quality expectations on scope of deliverable and documentation of key lessons learned for future projects).
  7. Maintains and matures portfolio management processes within the department.
  8. Performs portfolio and financial analyses, recommending courses of action to optimize the portfolio and its processes.  Validates received invoices match work recorded in IT Portfolio.
  9. Maintains data quality and accuracy across the portfolio.
  10. Manage the portfolio update processes, regularly reporting to management.
  11. Matures and improves dashboards and processes across the portfolio.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Management Sciences (Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, etc.)
  • 2-4 years' Project Portfolio experience in an Information Services or technology organization
  • Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification highly preferred

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the use of enterprise project management process methodologies and software
  • Excellent business and analytic skills including the ability to create complex reporting and tracking reports for a portfolio of 100+ projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate at all organizational levels
  • Ability to identify sub-optimal business processes and use process simplification methods and/or technology to improve them
  • Ability to review and analyze information from multiple sources
  • Knowledge and exposure to a broad range of enterprise project management and portfolio principles
  • Experience managing, analyzing, and reporting on IT investment spend
  • Detail-oriented
  • Highly experienced with spreadsheets, slides, and reporting tools
