Job Description

This position is responsible for the implementation and on-going management of specific FOCUS & MediChoice product categories to support the corporate-wide category management strategy.

This position is responsible for the implementation and on-going management of specific FOCUS & MediChoice product categories to support the corporate-wide category management strategy. Partners with internal and external customers to implement the tools necessary to support product categorization and vendor/SKU rationalization. Interfaces with product pricing teams to ensure cost efficient and uniform application of processes and procedures. Benchmarks internally and externally on best practices. In addition, acts as the point person for all MediChoice activities. Attends all meetings with MediChoice current and prospective suppliers. Negotiates and coordinates MediChoice launches. Mentors, directs, and supervises activities of two categories managers.


  1. Communicates and implements the corporate-wide category management strategy. Develops MediChoice and FOCUS programs, to implement a categorization process that supports overall corporate goals.
  2. Partners with product/pricing teams to ensure uniform application of product descriptions for new MediChoice SKU's.
  3. Create and maintain MediChoice and FOCUS programs to ensure corporate goals.
  4. Provides feedback on strategies and tactics for resolving FOCUS and MediChoice supplier compliance issues to the Vice President of Supplier Relations. Manages implementation of recommendations. Coordinates with in-house Risk Management and Legal as needed.
  5. Implements, documents, maintains and audits SKU, supplier reduction and rationalization programs, partners with Distribution Center and Field Management to communicate process enhancements.
  6. Partners with OMU and Marketing to develop training programs (i.e., persuasion and negotiation skills) designed to assist the field sales teammates in meeting categorization goals, convince customers to accepts products from standard offerings.
  7. Implements processes for providing correct and timely information to update OMNI vendor file, identifies and implements ways to increase system efficiencies.
  8. Assists and prepares presentations to be delivered to senior management, and field teammates on SKU FOCUS and MediChoice initiatives.

Perceiving the nature of sounds. Hearing is important for those activities which require ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on running engines.


Broad knowledge of a discipline such as chemical, distribution, electrical, or mechanical engineering, behavioral science, finance or business administration. Equal to a 4 year college or university education.


At least five to seven years of healthcare industry experience required; and one to two years experience with FOCUS and MediChoice.


Demonstrated understanding of the interaction between distributor, hospital, clinician and Group Purchasing Organization.

Demonstrated ability to craft and implement business strategy.

Ability to organize work and direct that of others.

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Ability to analyze and conclude.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Demonstrated ability to manage a team of professionals.
