POSITION SUMMARY

 

Leads all tax functions for Owens & Minor including: financial reporting, legal entity structuring, project planning and development, local and international compliance, tax treatment of operations, mergers and acquisitions, audits, shareholder interfaces and considerations, systems, internal controls, budgeting, business planning, recruiting and staff development.  Manages a team of domestic and international tax professionals.  Serves as Owens & Minor's subject matter expert on global taxation issues, advising Management and Executives, Business Operations, Audit and Finance Committees, and the Board of Directors.  Collaborates with the Offices of the Controller, Treasurer, Internal Audit, Legal, and FP&A in solving strategic issues facing the company.  Operates as an integral member of the Global Finance Team, and advisor to business operations.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

1.       Develops business goals and objectives for the Tax Department, ensuring the Owens & Minor Tax team is fully informed and adding value in areas of compliance, tax financial reporting, and operational/development support.

2.       Leads a team of domestic and international tax professionals, and ensures team is aligned with company values.  Coordinates communications and efforts among global tax functions.  Develops, coaches, and retains high quality professional staff, while demonstrating ownership of succession management and talent development for the Tax Department.

3.       Manages Owens & Minor interfaces with outside tax advisors (ensuring the most efficient tax position), government agencies (regarding tax positions), and shareholder tax representatives (managing requests).

4.       Develops and communicates views on judgmental tax related areas related to financial accounting.   Assists with the review of all quarterly and year-end accounting for income tax reporting.

5.       Ensures local tax compliance in host countries and any other jurisdictions where such obligations may arise.

6.       Working closely with Business Development teams, develops efficient tax structuring of new projects, including mergers and acquisitions.

7.       Directs the preparation of tax models for cash tax projections.

8.       Advises management on Human Resources issues, including assisting in the development and implementation of policies and programming for the efficient delivery of cost effective Teammate compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  

  • Four year university degree required
  • Masters Degree in Tax, JD/LLM in Taxation, and/or CPA certification required
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of U.S., International, and domestic corporate tax experience with a broad span on control required

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills appropriate to a person able to advise senior management and to represent the company with outside firms and agencies.
  • Demonstrated track record of working collaboratively across global organizations within broader finance and business teams to deliver creative solutions and leadership for the attainment of financial goals
  • Demonstrated skill and confidence in proactively building relationships with top tier partners/leaders both internally and externally
  • Ability to work independently, keeping management advised as to appropriate matters and issues
  • Experience with local foreign taxation requirements
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Demonstrates initiative and effectively identifies and drives problem-solving opportunities
  • Ability to influence senior management, business partners, and key stakeholders
  • Analyzes information to make sound business decisions taking prudent business risks as appropriate
