POSITION SUMMARY

 Provides strategic and tactical direction to the day-to-day operations of a defined domestic geographical region in order to achieve business goals while working to streamline processes and maximize operational efficiencies.  Directs the warehousing, transportation, distribution and logistics functions consistently across the distribution centers (DC) in their region while attaining targeted client satisfaction levels.  Develops operational goals and objectives and associated programs, policies and procedures to drive the efficient and profitable operation of the DCs in the assigned region. Partners with the RVP (Regional Vice President) Provider Services to be accountable for the revenue, gross margin and operating earnings goals of their total book of business.  Focuses on retention and enhancement of value creation for clients and Owens & Minor.   Partners with RVP of Provider Services and Manufacturer Services sales team on sales, implementations and client management efforts across the assigned region.  Hires, assesses, develops, coaches and mentors the General Managers and Warehouse Management with the assigned region.   



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

1.       Develops and executes operational plans across the assigned region to support distribution and transfer of products and services to clients, achieving the strategic goals of the business. Co-leads the assigned Regional Business Team partnering with functional business partners to leverage functional excellence and to achieve best in class business results.

2.       Partners with the RVP Provider Services to be jointly responsible for revenue, gross margin and operating earnings goals for the assigned region's profit and losses (P&L). 

3.       Partners with Sales, IT and other key functions across the organization to develop and implement strategies and initiatives that drive strong customer intimacy and connectivity

4.       Drives a sustainable lean culture across the O&M operations and well into our customers' operations with focus on training, education, process standardization and complexity reduction.

5.       Directs the warehousing, transportation, distribution and logistics functions for the assigned region to effect the most efficient management of company assets, while attaining targeted client satisfaction levels and ensuring company practices and standards are maintained.

6.       Works with field leadership and Corporate Operations to establish annual key performance indicators and client satisfaction measures; manages DCs in their region to the successful achievement of those metrics providing regular updates and reporting to leadership as appropriate.

7.       Identifies opportunities to refine operations methods, processes and engineered standards for current business needs and future strategic objectives; partners with counterparts across the regional network to develop initiatives for change.  Ensures successful execution of new programs consistently across the region with support of site leadership.

8.       Identifies and executes on synergies and opportunities across multi-site operations, with strong focus on productivity gains and customer service level improvements.

9.       In conjunction with the Regional Finance Business Partner, develops budgets for the assigned region and manages within budgeted parameters; accountable for the profits and/or losses across the assigned region and recommends ways of maximizing resources and creating value for clients and Owens & Minor.

10.   Partners with VPs  of Provider Services and Manufacturer Services sales team on sales and client management efforts across the assigned region participating actively in sales calls presentations, developing relationships and providing client management and support for implementations.

11.   Interfaces with area sales team, manufacturer representatives and clients to resolve issues relating to product quality, availability and delivery schedules. Operates as client interface for problem resolution and for new service offerings working to strengthen the client experience across the assigned region.

12.   Works with leadership of centralized front office functions:  administration, customer service, inventory management, IT, and finance to ensure functions and company assets are managed effectively and efficiently, while attaining or exceeding targeted service levels.

13.   Hires, trains, assesses and develops General Managers (GMs) talent working to provide a successful succession plan for leadership within the region and across the network.  Provides direct coaching, development and mentoring to GMs.  Supports Owens & Minor University (OMU) in the design and development of Operations Leadership curriculum and facilitates classes at local sites and at OMU.

14.   Partnering with the Regional Human Resources Business Partner, ensures consistent practices in teammate recruiting, supervision, coaching, development, and termination practices.  Partners with Human Resources and OMU to ensure teammates are trained in new systems and procedures including new hire and refresher training. 

15.   Establishes and promotes the maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions and recommends measures to reduce or eliminate industrial accidents and health hazards; coordinates Loss Prevention Programs as directed by Corporate to include inspections, accident investigation and record keeping.

16.   Working with the Regional Quality Business Partner, ensures all regulatory requirements are met for drugs, hazardous materials, merchandise dating, storage requirements; maintains strong and healthy relationships with reporting agencies to include Department of Transportation, Department of Labor, Drug Enforcement Administration, Food & Drug Administration, etc.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  

1.       Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred

2.       Fifteen plus years of experience within relevant field; minimum of ten years leading and directing in the supply chain or warehouse operations industry; experience within the medical, medical device, or healthcare industries preferred but not essential

3.       In depth knowledge of best practices and strategies for supply management, logistics, distribution or warehouse management

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

1.       Extensive industry knowledge required

2.       Strong financial acumen including prior profit and loss responsibilities

3.       Ability to work fast and effectively within a matrix environment

4.       Demonstrated leadership and people management skills with an ability to lead, coach and mentor all levels of teammates

5.       Proven team building skills, both internal and external, with the ability to motivate and direct the work of others

6.       Exceptional customer relationship skills

7.       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to influence senior level management

8.       Excellent planning and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to direct large complex initiatives across a broad network and ensure completion

9.       Proven ability to analyze and conclude; ability to apply Six Sigma, Lean Methodologies and to standardize processes across multiple site and functions

10.  Ability to lead and drive change amongst peers and direct reports.
