Job Description


Develops and executes an enterprise-wide leadership development and high potential teammate strategy.   Builds and maintains leader competencies and end-to-end Leadership curriculum.  Utilizes expertise to identify and proactively address opportunities to increase the effectiveness of Owens & Minor global leaders. Conducts performance gap analyses.   Develops and delivers and/or coordinates development activities, including but not limited to classroom, experiential, and vendor supported learning.  Champions the value of sustained learning of leaders, while becoming a trusted advisor within the organization.  Partners closely with company leadership and Human Resources' Business Partner (HRBP) network to assess needs, develop, implement, and measure the success of leadership development programs.


1.      Collaborates with leadership to assess, design, implement, and evaluate global development strategies and programs that will proactively improve the effectiveness of O&M leaders.  

2.      Regularly assesses and analyzes leadership performance gaps and capability needs of the organization based on current and future strategic plans.  Translates gaps into new or updated developmental programs.

3.      Partners with Talent Management team, HR Center of Excellence, HRBP network, and Leadership Learning Council to determine the most effective development methodologies, mediums, and timing to use for various audiences.

4.      Develops content both internally and in partnership with external vendor partners; manages and maintains strong working relationships with vendor partners.

5.      Conducts on-site facilitation and/or delivery of training programs as an instructor or event facilitator. May facilitate strategic meetings for the purpose of key leadership drivers. Delivers training through virtual and in classroom sessions, workshops, or individual coaching and/or in conjunction other programs.

6.      Engages in activities to further develop current leaders and successfully onboard new leaders.  Provides leaders the requisite training to assist their efforts to coach, develop, lead, and acclimate their teams within the Owens & Minor culture and toward maximizing their potential as a leader.

7.      Measures and reports to Leader Development Council and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on the effectiveness of Leadership Development and High Potential programs.  Continuously seeks feedback, ideas and suggestions to improve development effectiveness, policies and new development initiatives.

8.      Pro-actively researches and identifies opportunities to apply new thinking on Leadership development to improve leader effectiveness. 

9.      Keeps up-to-date with trends, developments and best practices in the learning field.  Researches new technologies and methodologies in workplace learning.

10.  Leverages communication and leadership skills.  Acts as a catalyst to ensure that global programs and learnings are leveraged across the organization.

11.  Engages in Learning Industry forums (i.e., ATD) to benchmark and continuously make improvements against best practices and trends. 

12.  Creates relationships with key executives and builds trust and credibility within the organization.

13.  Provides assessment of return on investment of development programs under consideration for budgeting purposes.


1.               Performs additional duties as directed.



  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • Certifications i.e. CPLP, DDI, or SPHR preferred 
  • Ten or more years of experience in the field of learning and development or professional leadership development consulting required
  • Five or more years of experience in Leadership Development Planning required
  • Any combination of education and experience to meet the above requirements
  • Prior experience in a Fortune 500 global corporate operating environment with a proven record of accomplishment of cross-functional collaboration, working directly with executive leaders and the ability to build trusted partnerships with all levels of an organization, preferred


  • Seasoned Leadership Development professional
  • Extensive knowledge of adult and sustained learning curriculum principles
  • Ability to lead efforts to build an/or revise leadership and High Potential teammate competency models and build curriculum to support competencies
  • Ability to identify and analyze organizational needs and business opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and implement leadership development programs
  • Ability to effectively work with senior levels of Company leadership
  • Ability to manage relationships and direct the work of vendors
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership presence and gain the trust of executive leadership
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to influence decision makers
  • Superior presentation and facilitation skills
  • Effective influence and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency office productivity software and learning tools (i.e. Video, Webinars, Coaching Tools)


  • Ability to travel up to 20% may be required during certain times of the year
  • Ability to work extended hours on occasion
