Job Description



Supporting the Global Solutions teams, participates in completing responses to, including the writing of, re-compete business proposals and formal Requests for Proposals (RFPs).  Actively drives proposals through the response process by using project management skills and by working with members of the Global Solutions teams.  Provides support for the collection and writing of complex internal and external case studies used in the RFP response process, as well as customer-facing RFP presentations. 


1.         Drives the process to effectively manage Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Information (RFIs) for customers and Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs).

2.         Organizes, writes, collects and compiles data for RFP's through interaction with the various teams.

3.         Writes and edits business proposals, particularly those needing more complex response or proposals with a higher value.

4.         Prepares communications of final proposal with the Global Solutions sales team to senior management.

5.         Makes suggestion for improvement to the RFP template and language library through interfacing with multiple subject knowledge experts.

6.         Helps support the entire sales process, including presentation development.

7.         Works with external support teams to conduct post-mortems on RFPs.

8.         Provides reporting on RFP outcomes, maintains the RFP tracking report.

9.         Assists the National Accounts team in analyzing, managing and writing national proposals and addendums.

10.     Analyzes and makes recommendations based on Distribution Center, customer and buy group for RFP's, particularly those needing more complex response or proposals with a higher value.

11.     Supports writing and editing internal and external case studies for the sales process including interviewing experts, collecting and analyzing data.

12.     Relies on knowledge of all Owens & Minor programs in order to promote the appropriate programs for targeted accounts.

13.     Intimately obtains and retains knowledge about the Owens & Minor sales cycle, business pursuits and partnership planning process.

14.     Provides additional support for the Global Solutions Commercial Excellence team.


1.   Performs additional duties as directed.



1.   Bachelor's degree in Estimating, Price/Cost Analysis or other related field, required.

2.   Minimum, four (4) years of work experience in Sales Operations and/or Bid Proposal development or an equivalent combination of education and experience, required.


1.   Demonstrated functional knowledge of distribution industry.

2.   Strong financial management skills with a demonstrated ability specifically in pricing and forecasting.

3.   Very strong leadership and people management skills with an ability to coach and mentor all levels of teammates.

4.   Excellent communication and negotiation skills with an ability to influence most senior levels in an organization.

5.   Exceptional critical thinking and creative problem solving skills with proven ability to collaborate with others to identify alternatives and drive to resolution

6.   Very strong planning and organizational skills, as well as project management skills.

7.   Demonstrated success in sales planning and sales execution.

8.   PC, Excel and PowerPoint proficient.
