POSITION SUMMARY

 

Provides foundational support as a member of a high-performing, flexible, and cohesive Income Tax Team.  Implements tax processes to ensure federal and state income tax compliance and proper accounting for income taxes and provides feedback for decision-making and planning.  Works to adapt and improve tax systems and processes to anticipate and accommodate growth.  Completes tax research related to complex federal and state income tax compliance and planning issues--including federal consolidated return issues, unitary and combined state return issues, and tax accounting issues.  Manages information requirements for income tax audits. 



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

1.       Develops a thorough knowledge of tax systems and processes to ensure timely task completion and to identify opportunities for improvement in quality and efficiency.  Uses sound judgment to balance effort with value added.  Collaborates with team members and with other teams to leverage information, remove obstacles, and find solutions.

2.       Prepares and reviews federal and state income/franchise tax estimated payments, extensions, and returns to ensure accurate and timely filing and payment.

3.       Assists with accounting for income taxes--including tax provision preparation, deferred tax calculation, tax account analysis and reconciliation, and budgeting.  Oversees income tax-related issues as they pertain to the accounting general ledger.  Optimizes the use of tax and financial software tools in accounting for income taxes.  Assists in developing and enhancing the Income Tax Team's proficiency in the use of accounting-related technology tools.

4.       Researches and analyzes tax regulations related to complex federal and state income tax compliance and planning issues, including federal consolidated return issues, state nexus and unitary filing issues, and tax accounting issues.  Manages research projects to minimize the Company's federal and state income tax burdens--including working with consultants on such projects.

5.       Develops and maintains the broad and in-depth technical knowledge and skills in the federal and state income tax fields that are necessary to effectively administer the Company's tax compliance and tax planning functions.

6.       Oversees the work of income Tax Specialists, Accountants and other junior tax teammates as required and requested on projects described above.  Encourages reciprocal and supportive feedback, training, and development.

7.       Understands and maintains an awareness of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and controls, and assists in the maintenance and documentation of an effective income tax process control environment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in accounting or finance
  • Master's degree in Taxation and/or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certificate preferred
  • Five or more years of related work experience required
  • Skills with MS Excel and Word required; advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Experience with ONESOURCE Income Tax and ONESOURCE Tax Provision preferred.

  • Broad, in-depth technical tax and accounting knowledge
  • Advanced interpersonal skills including excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Ability to discern errors within highly complex or detailed work


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May work extended hours on occasion
