Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: 

Drives a gasoline or diesel powered tractor-trailer combination (capacity over 26,001 pounds), usually long distance to transport and deliver medical and surgical products to customer location.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Complies with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company regulations, policies, and standards pertaining to fleet safety compliance including: maintaining current driving license and required medical certificates, applying knowledge of highway conditions and commercial driving safety regulations, and completing all documentation and manifests required to indicate proper shipment and receipt of product. 

  1. Operates truck primarily in highway driving conditions and completes hook and drop pickup and delivery to two route destinations which typically consist of 2 route runs per day. 

  1. Utilizing an electronic log systems, inspect truck for defects before and after operations completing vehicle inspection checksheet to be submitted in daily report to warehouse management. Notify warehouse management of any identified defects. 

  1. Completes driver log or trip reports in accordance with DOT regulations. 

  1. Ensures good customer relations by consistently delivering orders on time and acting in a courteous and professional manner.

  1. Secures loads and assures loads are within vehicle weight limit. 

  1. Turns in vehicle inspection sheet daily to warehouse management and notifies management of any defects.

  1. Completes driver log or trip report in accordance with DOT regulations.



 

SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  Performs additional duties as directed.



QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION & FORMAL TRAINING:


 CDL required.


 General knowledge of a variety of basic topics, such as math, reading, basic accounting, typing, etc.  Equal to a high school diploma.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

          At least 2 years driving experience. 3-5 years preferred



EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND WORK AIDS:

Pallet jack, forklift, proof of deliveries, bills of lading.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:

1.           Outside working conditions.

2.           May be exposed to loud noise in the operation of vehicle.

3.           No environmental hazards indicated for this classification.

 

STRENGTH REQUIREMENT:

          Medium Work:  Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

 

TYPE OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Acuity, far

          Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.

Acuity, near

          Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.

Depth Perception ‑ Three‑dimensional vision.

          Ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.  This factor is important when depth perception is required for successful job performance and/or for reasons of safety to oneself and others. 

Field of Vision

          Observing an area that can be seen up and  in a given point.  This factor is important when job performance requires seeing a large area while keeping the eyes fixed. 

Accommodation

          Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus.  This item is especially important when doing near‑point work at varying distances from eye.
